Information

All students are welcome to study music in the The Gems World Academy Switzerland Music Academy, whether or not they are attending school at GWAS. Students may study individual instruments with some of the most highly qualified and acclaimed music teachers in the area and/or enroll in the Music Academy's Orchestra and other ensembles. It is also possible to prepare for ABRSM (Associated Boards of the Royal Schools of Music) examinations in all instruments offered plus theory and aural training through study with our highly qualified staff. GWAS is an official examination center for ABRSM exams.

Partnering with the Summer Music Program and the Geneva Youth Ensemble, the GWAS Music Academy is collaborating with these established music programs in order to bring the highest quality music experience to students in the Lausanne/La Cote region. Language is not a barrier in the GEMS Music Academy as we welcome both francophone and anglophone students and our teachers are happy to teach in either language (and a multitude of others). We are proficient in both ABC and do re mi musical systems.

Ensembles

The Orchestra welcomes students who can play independently, read a musical score and have a minimum level. All instruments are welcome, strings, brass, woodwind, percussion. Pianists wil need to be a much higher level to be accepted and be able to sight-read as well as willing to play other percussion instruments (xylophone, triangle, etc.)

Sing & Strum is a group class which teaches the students to accompany themselves with chords on the guitar while singing songs. There is a broad range of music taught from folk to pop to rock. Currently the limit is 4 per group.
